The Reports page in Post Views Counter allows you to easily and flexibly obtain information on the popularity of different types of content on the site over a given time period and export this data in universal XML and CSV file formats.
Reports Chart & Table
The Reports page consists of two main parts:
1. a chart, visually presenting the data
2. a table, with data in tabular form
With the chart, you can quickly and clearly see the number of views for the currently selected report type. The chart is dynamic – by clicking on the listed data groups, you can change its content and display only the data you need.
With the table, you can see complete, detailed data on the number of page views for the selected report type. Using the same data as the chart, the table allows another, more precise way of interacting with the collected data. It allows you to sort them or view them by page, so you can find exactly what you’ve been looking for.
Views by Date, Post & Author
Post Views Counter currently contains 3 different types of reports: Views by Date, Views by Post and Views by Author. Each of these reports contains different data and serves different purposes.
Views by Date
This is the default, basic report type. It allows you to get information regarding what was the number of views of different types of content in a given time period. In the chart, you will see a breakdown by date and a graphical representation of the number of page views with additional detail on content types.
By default, all content types will be displayed. However, you can limit them to: Post Types, Taxonomies, Authors or Other.
Views by Post
Often, you may not be interested in total page views, but you want to get information about what specific posts, pages or custom post types are most popular in any time period. And you can find out by using the Views by Post report.
By default, all posts are taken into account, but if necessary, you can limit this to any post type registered on the site.
Views by Author
This type of report may be unusual, while for some websites, especially those that publish content by multiple authors, it can be a great help. With it, you can get information about the popularity of the site users’ posts. It does not take into account the authors’ archives (if any are used at all) but the content published by them.
By default, all users’ data is displayed, but you can narrow this down to specific user roles if needed.
Date Range Filter
Obtaining information on the number of page views for each type of report would be incomplete without the ability to freely set the date range. The Post Views Counter reports page, of course, has this capability.
Each report can be displayed using the following date ranges:
- Last 30 days
- This Week
- Last Week
- This Month
- Last Month
- This Quarter
- Last Quarter
- This Year
- Last Year
- Custom Range
Data Export
Any of the generated data sets can be exported to one of two most popular file formats used for data sharing and processing:
CSV – a delimited data format that has fields/columns separated by the comma character and records/rows terminated by newlines.
XML – a markup language used to encode documents that can be read by both humans and machines that uses custom tags to describe the structure and features of the document.
